Opportunity to import wine in bulk
Trends in the Scandinavian markets – Shift to lighter and more sustainable packaging
- The Swedish market increases the demand for climate-friendly packaging that lowers the carbon footprint.
- We as importers see more and more tenders requesting such type of sustainable packaging in all Scandinavian countries.
- Examples for packaging with a low carbon footprint: Tetra-pack, Bag-in-Box, Pouches, aluminum cans, PET plastic bottles, and lighter-weight glass bottles.
Lower climate impact for different packaging
All the different packaging are emitting different amounts of CO2 during their manufacturing process. Another important factor is the weight of the packaging which creates more or less CO2 during the transportation. In comparison, the average emission of a Bag-in-Box is only 68g CO2, while a standard glass bottle is responsible for 664g and a heavier glass bottle for sparkling wine even 894g of CO2 on average.

How People Wine can help you meet these demands
- Thanks to many years of experience in the wine industry we understand that the Scandinavian markets are pioneers in this new type of packaging. Therefore it is not very common everywhere else around the world and can be difficult to be done by producers that usually only fill in glass bottles.
- We have established relations with trusted bottling and filling partners to give producers a chance, who don’t usually work with all container formats that our market demands, such as Bag in Box, Pouch, PET, and Can.
- We can offer this service to our partners when we work on such projects in a more custom manner. We can buy the wine in bulk and handle the rest of the steps. E.g. Pick-up, Transport, Filling, Packaging, Brand building, and Supply within Sweden.
How does it work?
- This opportunity can be discussed whenever a tender asks for Bag-In-Box, Pouches, Tetra-pack, aluminum cans, and PET plastic bottles. I case you have a wine that is matching all other requirements of the tender but you do not have these packaging types, we can help you.
- Reach out to our Purchase Team and we will then check the bottling laws in your region and discuss further with you.
- We will agree on the terms and conditions to buy the wine in bulk. We will also agree whether we will be selling the wine as your brand or ours.
- The payment terms would be ex-works per liter. Usually, we agree in Euros per liter but we are open to other currencies as well.
- You start with filling in the paperwork to apply for the tender as you would usually do.
- You have to submit 6 samples in glass bottles for the blind tasting of the monopoly.
- In case we win the tender, we place an order and decide on a pickup date.
- Our logistic partner comes to pick up the wine in a FlexiTank.
- We transport the wine to our partner companies where the wine will be bottled in the required packaging. After that, we bring it directly to our warehouse in Sweden for the launch and start selling it in the market.
- We can decide the branding and marketing strategy depending on the tender type.

Sample Stage – What do I have to keep in mind?
- The samples can be sent in smaller quantities (eg- in a lab), provided that it is produced in the same way as the final wine. (Filtered and stabilized)
- The samples submitted for the blind tasting must be exactly the same wine (on analysis and sensory analysis) as the one that would be sold to the monopoly later. All the required volume must be reserved and available in case of a win.
